Movement is a powerful form of storytelling, and I am dedicated to helping others unlock a deeper understanding of their identity, emotions, and personal stories. My goal is to empower all to express themselves with confidence, authenticity, and impact.
My name Tumelo is a Setswana word meaning "faith." Born in Saint Paul, MN, and raised in Gaborone, Botswana, I often reflect on the theme of being “in the middle.” As the second-born of three, this has appeared in my life in many forms. I now believe that I am a bridge between different worlds, and my artistry reflects what happens when the physical realm meets the unseen. Movement is where I find healing, transformation, and connection, and I am dedicated to exploring how dance can communicate deep emotions and untold stories—providing a voice for the unspoken truths we carry within.
From a young age, I was drawn to performance. I vividly remember making up dances for my parents at the age of five, and I have always had an introspective and inquisitive nature—traits that continue to shape the way I view the world. Growing up in a community where the value of performing arts was not always recognized, my passion was initially dimmed, and I thought pursuing architecture was the answer. But after graduating from high school at 17 and interning at an architectural firm, I secretly decided to follow my heart. I joined a street dance crew while applying to universities for architecture and interior design. Eventually, I moved back to Saint Paul to pursue a degree in Interior Design. But after my first semester, I made the call to my parents: I was switching majors to focus on performing arts full-time. This winding journey, much like the twists and turns in an old Pokémon game, has allowed me to collect valuable experiences along the way. The design and problem-solving skills I honed in architecture have played a significant role in shaping my choreographic process today. Furthermore, my spiritual journey has deepened my understanding of my true calling. My identity and faith in Christ have shaped who I am and where I am today.
